My Garden!

Soon I'll be moving to Oakland, where my new house will have two porches for all my little plants!

Terrarium!

My sweetest Oregon friends gave me this delicate birdie vase for my birthday. Amazingly, it survived the car trip home! I showed it to my boyfriend and he instantly decided it should be a terrarium.

I did no research whatsoever, just shoved some cuttings from my succulents in the hole, along with this hunk of moss that was growing on one of them. I'm not sure what will happen, but it looks awfully cute!

Butterfly Effect

I have to admit it: I love Martha Stewart. Or, should I say, I love her design team. I don't like to shop at box craft stores, but when my mother gave me the hot tip that Martha had a new product line, I had to check it out.

OH MY GOD.

There is so much great stuff. Papers, stickers, tape, everything, and it's all fabulous. Most of it is for that most embarassing of crafts, scrapbooking, but still. So great. And some was even on sale! For my birthday I got a few things, including this cute box frame that I just put together today.

Pearl Diver Necklace

Last year, I went out on a limb and saw my first "art film." It was Drawing Restraint by Matthew Barney, starring him, Bjork, and a bunch of Japanese whaling guys on a huge boat. It was the kind of movie where a mysterious man pours tea from a shell for like, an HOUR, and the comic relief involves a brief eyebrow-shaving scene.

I really liked it though, and a bunch of the images stuck with me, including one of this pearl diver barfing pearls. I guess it was the inspiration for this necklace I made, which is on my Etsy site.

Welcome to my new blog!

Okay. So I decided to start a new blog. We'll see what happens, but my goal is for this to be the place where I discuss crafty endeavors, products of notable cuteness, and my adventures as the proprietor of a growing small business. Of course, I'll still be dispensing with my old-fashioned wisdom regarding the world at large. :)

I'd like to begin with some pictures of the gems I found at the Sunset Drive-In swap meet last Sunday morning. I hadn't been in literally twenty years, so it was a nostalgic trip. Old men were camped out, selling rusty car parts and antique razors, families were selling sketchy-looking snacks from south of the border, paintings and dirty shoes and hot dogs; what I'm trying to say is that the selection was amazing.

I was good and only bought a couple of things, a little golden delicious apple container, a copy of Richard Scarry's The Naughty Bunny, and this little framed embroidery of birds. I love the swap meet!
